On the Road with The Wine Wrangler: Shale Oak Winery

Sipping Sustainable Wines with The Wine Wrangler
There’s a growing presence along California’s Central Coast of wineries turning to more sustainable practices in their winemaking.  The Wine Wrangler offers a variety of wine tasting tours throughout Paso Robles and the surrounding wine country and we can help you arrange a private wine tasting tour and design an itinerary that will take you wine tasting at any number of wineries that practice sustainable growing practices, but one of our favorite sustainable wineries to visit is Shale Oak Winery on Westside of Paso Robles.

Shale Oak Winery is a Gold Leed and SIP Certified Winery that prides itself on a commitment to sustainable practices in winemaking. The winery utilizes solar panels, rainwater reclamation, reverse-osmosis water system, and native landscaping. The two vineyards, in addition to producing great fruit, serve as a wild habitat preservation.

The Tasting Room at Shale Oak is warm and casual, but with an educational element. It is a place where you, can choose your experience – taste, tour, picnic, learn about sustainability, or simply kick back, open up your laptop, and enjoy the free WiFi. The building itself is open and airy, designed to take advantage of the day’s natural light. As the weather is ideal much of the year, guests are encouraged to enjoy the courtyard, covered outdoor patio and walking paths, all created to highlight this beautiful place.

Shale Oak Winery produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Zinfandel, and also offers a white blend, a Cabernet-based blend, and a Syrah-based blend. Production is limited and every bottle is made and sold exclusively at their Guest Center.
